I grew up in a boat. I was slalom skiing by the time I was 8, a pro caster and an instant napper once Al cranked that Evinrude. All in a boat named “Alison K”, named after my sister. I gave them both a hard time about it giving me a complex that we had a boat named after my sister and not me. In all fairness, the boat was named before I was born, so in essence our oldest brother should have had the complex. Fast forward to the day i got my first big girl job. Dad called and said he wanted to come visit..he politely placed every bill he paid for me through college on my desk and said “I’m going buy a big boat.”
Big boat was a sailboat named “Wayward”.Meaning turned away from what is right or proper; willful.
He was so excited to call and tell me he named the big boat after me, “Wayward Goose.” Goose was his nickname for me since i was a baby (he said i would stick my neck out of my stroller to be nosy and i looked like a goose) Dude was always full of jokes. I'ts not that I was disobedient, although I was the reason for the majority of his gray hair. I always marched to the beat of my drum. I was a leader, never a follower. I was his wayward daughter.
Joining LimeLife was about the most wayward thing I've ever done. Icky, gross direct sales of skin care and make-up. What the hell did I know about skin care and make up??? Then I watched a live from our CEO, and she called her beauty guides a bunch of wild women changing the world and bucking the system. Ah Ha, I'm supposed to be here. The wayward daughter, changing the views on direct sales and helping women march to the beat of their own drums too.
In April 2018, my friend Kallie and I did a dual live on the nature of direct sales these days. See, we are both very successful Mompreneurs, who make our sole living off of direct sales. I told this story about Wayward Goose. Kallie is married to my childhood friend Ross Kerne, who so eloquently told me the night of his wedding that I was one of his longest lasting friendships even though he hated me when he met me because I was so loud. Truth bomb. This story struck a heartbeat with Ross. He grew up around the Alison K, Al and the Wayward Goose but he never knew the story. The ever so engineered brain of Ross googled "Wayward Goose" and found a business with that name. Wait for it......
A dairy farm in West Pawlet, Vermont who also runs an Etsy shop with original art inspired by their life as Vermont dairy farmers, original drawings and paintings, original design note cards and limited edition linoleum prints. He scooped all the merchandise they had in stock and gave it me. This is oddest, most unique, most thoughtful gesture from a friend. There's a reason I kept this nerd around for so long.
